Chapter 8 A Waiheke Island November

A Wine Journey   A Wine Journey

Caption: Destiny Bay Vineyards on Waiheke Island, New Zealand

Reflection: Waiheke Island is about a 45-minute boat ride from Auckland. They seldom experience temperatures below freezing. We visited the island when we traveled to New Zealand with a group from Washington State University. The island has rolling hills that lead down to the water's edge. It is quickly becoming a wine region. Reds as well as whites are planted and new wineries open. Destiny Bay Vineyards specializes in Bordeaux reds. The island is peaceful and vineyards add to the sloping terrain. It is a place where people can say, "I could live here."
